How To Pivot

I would go ahead and describe myself as an optimistic, glass half full type of person. I have a knack for finding the good in people, silver linings, and the best songs to sing in the car. And when I met the team at Pivotous, I knew these people were much like myself, well minus the singing in the car part – I don’t know them that well yet.

You see, two days into my new job, I was told our whole team would be going into quarantine, and honestly, I was having mixed feelings about it. My thoughts were bouncing between, “I am not ready for this, I have only had two days of training” to “Thank goodness we still have work and the ability to do it remotely” with a little bit of “sweet, I can work in my pajamas” mixed in.

Lucky for people like us, we enjoy change. And I am aware that this isn’t the type of change that anyone asked for, being quarantined to our homes, not being able to see loved ones, and rationing our toilet paper, but it’s the change that is needed. So we changed, well… pivoted actually!

The great thing about working at a digital marketing agency is that things are always changing, it’s commonplace. We naturally have that, “okay, what’s next” mindset that helps us stay ahead of the curve.

So here I am…about a month into this new position as a content creator, writing articles in my pajamas and living my #BestQuarantineLife with the help of my Pivotous team.  And wanting to share a few of my learnings with you!

Stay Positive

I want to preface this by telling you that your feeling are valid. We are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and it is okay to feel anxious, worried, sad, depressed, or nervous at times. Accept those feelings…. and then do your best to move on. There are so many books and articles that touch on the topic of positive thinking so I am going to keep this short and sweet by quoting Mary Engelbreit – “If you don’t like something, change it; if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” I think this a great reminder that you are in control of your thoughts, feelings, and ultimately how you view the world.

Pivot your Priorities

Before the times of COVID-19, your list of priorities may have looked something like this: Go to the office, get coffee with a potential new client, return that book to the library, or attend that tradeshow. But in reality, you will probably not get any of these things accomplished until after the quarantine. So let’s put those priorities on the back burner and pivot your focus on what you can be doing. This list can include: finishing that home renovation project, creating a new content strategy for your brand, getting virtual coffee with a potential client you met on LinkedIn or learning about social selling!

When life gives you Pivotous, pivot with us! In this ever-changing world, the Pivotous team is here to guide you in this new digital landscape. With 50+ years of experience in technology, health, marketing, social selling, writing, and more, we can help you pivot towards success!

Don’t Be THAT Company

Don’t focus on the one sale you’re trying to make, focus on creating a repeat customer or customers with referrals from your initial contact. Would you recommend us to someone else if we made the conversation about getting the sale/closing the sale or would you spend most of the conversation trying to figure out how to end the call?
